What does TAFFY do?
TAFFY is a
non-profit organization that was established to give kids the
opportunity to learn all aspects of theater arts by providing
funds to supplement tuition for theater training, classes, and
workshops.
Why was TAFFY established?
The Montpelier
Theatre Guild wanted to recognize Russell Smith’s tireless
dedication to providing theater opportunities for youth.
Russell’s association with the Montpelier Theatre Guild as a
MTG board member, director, producer, lighting director and
performer influenced MTG to keep Russell’s focus on youth
participation alive and viable.
Who is eligible for a TAFFY
Scholarship?
Any person in
12th grade or under is eligible to apply for a TAFFY
Scholarship.
What are the guidelines to
receive a scholarship?
TAFFY is a
‘needs-based’ fund, however, income guidelines have not been
established. The fund will be used to help defray the cost of
theater related training, workshops and camps for youth who
want to develop skills and confidence in theater arts, whether
in acting or lighting design or any other role needed to put on
a show. All scholarships will be used before the recipient
graduates from High School. TAFFY is not for on-going training
or year-round schools, such as dance lessons, or for expenses
incurred as part of being in a show, etc.
How much is a scholarship for?
Scholarships
can range from $50.00 to $250.00.
How can one apply for a TAFFY
Scholarship?
You can request
an application by calling Mark Billian at 223-0137 or by mailing
your request to: TAFFY, c/o Montpelier Theatre Guild, PO Box
465, Montpelier, VT 05601. You can also link to the application
and print it.
Is there a deadline for
applications?
All applications should be
received by April 18th 2003.
Receipt of scholarships?
All
scholarships will be sent directly to the organization providing
the education to the recipient. Each recipient will be named on
the scholarship check.
When does the next grant cycle
begin?
Grant requests will be considered in the winter of 2003 for
theater programs beginning the following summer. Please
check the scholarship information pages on the web.
